Investing in education has always been a priority for us. And because we believe we have the power to change the IT market, our arm Poatek Academy was created for us to change the huge shortage of qualified software engineers in the world. Based on four main pillars, Poatek Academy is changing the reality of many IT professionals, either inside and outside Poatek.
Our engineers at Poatek have time away from client projects to research new topics and learn new skills. Sometimes we will also bring people from universities to join us in this research and publish papers together in conferences. Our team also often participates in conferences as speakers.
Our Team Members have a chance to travel abroad to one of our offices (currently Miami and Lisbon) while they are working on a specific client project to spend a few months and during their time there they can enroll in a local University to study a new topic and/or collaborate on a research project with a local Professor. We have established partnerships with schools in the US and Israel, and soon Portugal.
Established in 2018, our Summer Job program is how we bring students from international schools to spend time in Brazil doing their summer job with us. We’ve already hosted students from MIT, Brown, Minerva School, Georgia Tech, and many others. They work on real client projects and also participate in our research efforts.
This is probably the program we are most proud of. We channel a portion of our profits to subsidize scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to afford to go to school in Brazil. But it doesn’t stop there. Our Team Members also lend a big hand by spending time with the students helping them figure out what classes to take, sometimes helping them prepare for a test, preparing their CVs, and helping out with job opportunities when they graduate.
Finally, straightening our relationship with universities we are also often participating in conferences, career fairs, and informal talks with students on campus. As well as organizing webinars and hackathons for students and recent-graduate professionals.
